When meeting formally with advisees, don't forget to:

  • Discuss goals, career plans, aspirations, and interests
  • Discuss choice of major, potential double-major, or minor(s), as well as combined degree opportunities
  • Discuss courses, progress, degree, and graduation requirements, including Gen. Ed.
  • Independently review CSI and MYSA data, as needed, and follow suggestions from the results for how best to support each advisee
  • Provide Self-Service refresher, as needed
  • Discuss Important Dates: Add/Drop, Withdrawal, 3rd Week Assessment, Midterm
  • Discuss how to buy books – eCampus
  • Discuss Moodle, and online courses, as needed
  • Discuss financial aid compliance and "What if I can't pay my bill?" options
  • Discuss challenges/opportunities/relevant support services
  • Discuss internships, Study Away, and student exchange
  • Discuss FDU/DREW cross-registration
  • Discuss student clubs/organizations/sports
  • Discuss campus employment opportunities and potential scholarship opportunities
  • Discuss academic policies – NC grade, transfer credit/approval for study off campus, full-time credit load, 18 credit rule, academic integrity
  • Discuss majors declaration process
  • Conduct informal degree audit/academic plan update each semester/formal audit prior to majors declaration
  • Discuss campus security/Advocate system, as needed
