Transportation for Volunteer Service

Student volunteers are strongly encouraged to use public transportation or carpool when possible. However, the Center maintains a minivan, available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Although we will do our best to accommodate your volunteer schedule, transportation cannot be guaranteed.

Purpose

  • The van is to be used for transportation of members of the CSE community for service-learning and community service initiatives, events organized by recognized groups on campus, academic and cultural events associated with a particular course, and other approved college-sponsored activities.

  • The van cannot be used to run errands, to transport outside groups or individuals, or for personal use.

Procedures

  • Contact the Center at either ext. 4220 or ext. 4245.
  • Fill out the Reservation Request Form at least three weeks prior to date needed.

If approved, all drivers must:

  • Submit a copy of their valid U.S. driver's license to the Center.
  • Complete a Driver Agreement Form.

Drivers will be responsible for the van while it is checked out for usage. Drivers must also become familiar with college emergency policies and procedures pertaining to van usage.

If available, students involved in ongoing or semester-long service activities can reserve a van for the appropriate days and times for the duration of the semester.

The Geraldine Doyle Riordan Center for Volunteerism and Service-Learning reserves the right to limit or deny a student or club's future access to the van if the above guidelines are not followed. The Center may cancel the use of the van if it thinks driving may be dangerous.

Always use your discretion as to whether or not you feel comfortable driving.
