What
is the deadline for application?
(top)
Most of the graduate programs DO NOT have an admission deadline.
However, there are a few programs (listed below) that do
have an admission deadline. For those programs without a
deadline, the Graduate School recommends that students submit
their credentials as far in advance as possible from the
semester they plan to begin their studies to ensure a timely
review of their application.

Does
the College of Saint Elizabeth accept transfer credits?
(top)
An applicant may receive in transfer, up to a maximum of
nine credits of graduate course work of semester-length
from institutions other than the College of Saint Elizabeth.
All courses in the Multidisciplinary Core Curriculum must
be taken at the College Saint Elizabeth.
Since
at least three quarters of the degree credit hour requirements
must be met in residence at the College of Saint Elizabeth,
specific credits and numbers of credits accepted for transfer
must be approved by the director of the program to which
the student has been matriculated. Transfer credits must,
in the judgment of the program director, be comparable or
integrate well, both in terms of content and quality, with
courses in the graduate program.
All
credits accepted for transfer must be taken at the graduate
level. Post-baccalaureate level courses generally are unacceptable
and must be specifically justified in the student's program
of study.
All
credits transferred must be from regionally accredited colleges
and taken in residence. Extension credits are ordinarily
not acceptable. All credits transferred must be equivalent
to the grade of "B" or higher. Generally, courses
taken on a pass/fail basis are not accepted except where
there is written documentation attached to the requested
transfer credit that states the institutional policy to
only grant passing credit for grades of "B" or
higher in graduate course work.
Acceptable transfer credit cannot previously have been applied
to a degree unless related to formal advanced standing.
Credits used to complete one degree shall not be used again
for credit toward another graduate degree or certificate,
except in the case of a second master's degree at the College
in which the student has completed multidisciplinary core
issues courses which are directly applicable to the second
degree.
In
order to transfer credit, an official transcript, bearing
the registrar's signature and seal of the college, along
with course descriptions, must be submitted to the program
director for the evaluation process.
A
student who wishes to transfer to another graduate program
at the College must file a formal application with the director
of the program to which the transfer is made. The number
of credits to be transferred into the new program will be
determined by the new program director. Grades from courses
accepted through interprogram transfers will be computed
into the student's cumulative grade point average.
Transfer
credit will be recorded on the transcript when the student
is accepted to matriculated status for the master's degree.
Approval
of transfer credit must be granted within the calendar year
time limit allowed for completion of the master's degree.
Does
the College of Saint Elizabeth require GRE or GMAT scores?
(top)
No, the College does not require GRE or GMAT scores as part
of the application process.
How
many credits may I take as a non-matriculated student before
being accepted into a program?
(top)
Students seeking to earn a graduate degree at the College
of Saint Elizabeth may not take more than 10 credits in
that degree program prior to admission as a matriculated
student. In the event that students take more than 10 credits,
such credits cannot count toward degree requirements. However,
3 credits will be accepted as advanced standing toward the
M.A. in Education: Human Services Leadership from students
who successfully earn the Accelerated Program leading to
Teacher Certification. Fifteen credits will be accepted
as advanced standing toward the M.A. in Education: Human
Service Leadership from students who successfully earn the
Teacher of the Handicapped Certification.
How
long can I take to complete my degree?
(top)
Ordinarily, students are expected to enroll continuously
until the program is completed. A student who does not earn
any graduate credit toward the degree during two consecutive
years will be required to reapply for admission to the graduate
program; no fee is required for readmission. Students in
good academic standing are readmitted under the Graduate
Catalog in effect at the time of re-entry.
The length of time given to a student to complete a degree
is calculated from the date the student becomes matriculated
in the graduate program.
A full-time student in education, management, health care
management, nutrition, and theology must successfully complete
a degree within three calendar years, i.e., 11 to 13 credits
per year; a part-time student pursuing a degree in any of
these areas must successfully complete a degree in 6 calendar
years, i.e., 6 credits per year. A full-time student in
counseling psychology must successfully complete a degree
in 5 years; a part-time student in this program must complete
a degree in 10 years. However, a written petition for extension
with full documentation of extraordinary cause, such as
the granting of a leave of absence for medical or other
good reason, must be made to the director of the program
in which the student is enrolled. Time spent in the armed
forces is not included in the six-year period. However,
a student should apply for a leave of absence while in the
armed forces.
A student will not be allowed to continue pursuing a degree
beyond the stipulated time frame unless the student has
received approval to do so. To petition for an extension
of time, a student must submit a formal written request
to her/his program director, accompanied by a degree completion
plan. A student approved for an extension will be placed
on probation each semester until the degree has been completed.
Approval for a time extension does not guarantee approval
for additional financial aid.
Does
the College of Saint Elizabeth offer financial assistance
or tuition discounts?
(top)
Financial Aid
There are several types of financial aid available at the
College of Saint Elizabeth. Federal and State loans (to
be repaid), tuition discounts and reimbursements (not to
be repaid), and Graduate Assistantships are available. Educational
loans play an important role in each student's eligibility
for loan programs. Most of the student loans are through
the FFELP (Federal Family Education Loan Program) program
by which students may borrow funds to cover their cost of
education less any other financial aid received. Information
regarding Graduate Assistantships can be obtained by calling
the Financial Aid Office at 973-290-4445.
Tuition Discounts
Several tuition discounts are available to graduate students.
A student is eligible for only one of the following discounts
each semester. These discounts do not apply to books, fees
or other costs; or if a student is the recipient of a scholarship
or grant from the College; or if the course is taken for
audit. Contact the Business Office to apply for any of these
discounts. Consult the current undergraduate catalog for
tuition discounts available to undergraduate students.
Members of religious communities sponsored by the Catholic
Church receive a 50% reduction of tuition.
Full-time
teachers in Catholic elementary or secondary schools
who are pursuing certification or who are matriculated
students in either the M.A. in Education: Human Services
Leadership or the M.A. in Educational Technology programs
receive a 50% reduction in tuition. A letter of documentation
from the student's principal must be submitted at the
time of registration for each semester to the Business
Office to verify that the applicant is currently a full-time
member of the teaching staff.
Employees of church-related institutions, who are matriculated students in the M.A. in Theology program, receive a 50% reduction in tuition. A letter of documentation of employment from the student's director or pastor must be submitted each semester to the Business Office to verify that the applicant is currently engaged in appropriate parish ministry.
If
I studied in an institution outside of the United States,
what educational background is needed to be considered for
admission into the graduate program at the College of Saint
Elizabeth?
(top)
You must have the equivalence to a US bachelor's degree
to be considered for graduate studies. The Graduate Program
at the College of Saint Elizabeth DOES NOT evaluate foreign
transcripts. All foreign transcripts must receive a COURSE-by-COURSE
evaluation by World Education Services (WES), and the WES
evaluation must indicate that you have the equivalence to
a US bachelor's degree. If you would like to know what educational
background is needed from your country to be considered
the equivalence to a US bachelor's degree, you must contact
