Lorena E. Tyson, '55, will be honored at this year's Scholarship Benefit and Silent Auction on Thursday, April 26, 6 p.m. at the Madison Hotel. Ms. Tyson received the degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, in 2000, the year CSE celebrated its Centennial year, for her dedication to education and the College.
She is the current president of the CSE Alumni Association and is a class agent since 1975. She, along with three other classmates started the Sister Marian José Smith Scholarship Fund to support science education.
Ms. Tyson has dedicated her life to these subjects teaching at parochial schools, as well as Montclair High School, where she was named the 1989 Teacher of the Year. She received numerous other national, regional, and New Jersey educator awards and has served in a variety of roles related to women, youth, and human rights and educational and governmental issues.
Ms. Tyson has also been an adjunct professor at Essex County College, Kean University and Middlesex County College. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from CSE in 1955, and a Master of Science in Chemistry from Catholic University of America in 1965.
