Screaming Eagles Drop 2 on the Weekend

The Screaming Eagles dropped a tight game at Lancaster Bible on Saturday, 79-60.

The Eagles looked to continue their 8 game win streak when they traveled to Lancaster Bible. The Eagles took an early 8-6 lead, thanks to a jumper by Cheyenne Grant.  Lancaster Bible went on a 12-0 run with 11 minutes remaining in the half, to open up a 23-10 lead.  Alivia Roseboro and Cheyenne Grant kept the Eagles in the game, knocking down back to back 3 points to cut the lead to 25-19. Lancaster went on another run to open up a 31-19 lead with 4 minutes remaining in the half. Ashley Pledger hit a key 3 pointer right before the end of the half to cut the deficit to 35-33.

The second half started off for both teams. CSE missed their first 5 shots of the half, before Kelly O’Dell made a driving layup to get within 37-33. Both teams traded buckets before Grant knocked down another 3 pointer, to cut the lead to 48-45. Lancaster Bible went on a 9-0 run midway through the half, to open up a 67-53 lead. CSE could not overcome the double-digit deficit, ultimately falling to Lancaster Bible 79-60.

Cheyenne Grant finished with 18 points including 4 3 pointers. Kelly O’Dell finished with 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Eagles dropped to 11-5 on the season and 6-2 in the NEAC.

The Eagles returned to action on Sunday, when they visited Penn St. Berks for an NEAC match up. Despite playing a back to back, the Eagles got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 13-7 lead. Ashely Pledger made a driving layup for 2 of her 16 first half points, to give the Eagles a 24-15 lead midway through the first half. Danesha Triplett was once again a force down low, scoring 8 of her 9 points before the break. The Eagles managed to open up an 11 point lead before the Nittany Lions went on a 7-0 run, to cut the lead to 35-31. CSE struggled to close out the half, giving up the last 5 points, to go into halftime with a 44-43 lead.

Cheyenne Grant knocked down the first bucket of the half, to give the Eagles a 3 point lead. Penn St. berks, however, found their stride as they quickly went on an 11-1 run to open up a 7 point lead. Pledger’s layup at the 13:30 mark got CSE to within 57-55. Penn St. went on another devastating run, opening up a 69-59 lead with 8 minutes remaining in the game.  Playing a back to back seemed to hit the Eagles in the second half as they found themselves trailing 86-68 with 3:30 left in the game. The Eagles were not able to regain their momentum, eventually dropping the contest 97-87.

Ashley Pledger finished with a game high 28 points. Amerisse Rogers netted a career high 26 points. The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they travel to Wilson at 1 P.M.
