Diane Da Silva, Saint Elizabeth alumnae, named assistant basketball coach at Centenary

CENTENARY, N.J. – Centenary College has announced that Diane Da Silva (’11) has been hired as an assistant basketball coach starting with the 2012-13 season. 

Da Silva will assist new Cyclones head coach Rachel Weidensaul, and also serve as a resident director for Reeves Hall at Centenary.

Da Silva was a four-year starter and team captain for the Saint Elizabeth basketball team and she was on the Screaming Eagle squad that allowed the few points per game in all of Division III. In her senior year in 2010-11, Da Silva finished the season ranked 12th in Division III and second in the NEAC conference in assists per game with 5.82, while also finishing in the top-10 in the NEAC in both assist-to-turnover ratio (1.20) and minutes played per game (36.4).   In 2009-10, she was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Hilton Thanksgiving Tournament. The season prior, she received the team’s Coach’s Award while also claiming the Most Improved Player award during her freshman campaign.

Aside from playing basketball, Da Silva was also a member of the women's soccer and the inaugural lacrosse team at Saint Elizabeth.

In 2011, Da Silva attended the WBCA "So You Want To Be A Coach" conference for professional development in coaching and administration in basketball in Indianapolis, Ind. Da Silva earned a bachelor’s degree in justice studies from Saint Elizabeth.  She was named the 2011 New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year for her dedication to athletics and success in the classroom and also received the Dorothy Donnelly Dedication Award for her commitment to athletics. Da Silva capped off her athletics career by being one of 30 finalists for the 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
