THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The College of Saint Elizabeth women’s soccer team lost its non-conference tilt against SUNY Maritime, 1-0, Tuesday night at Reinhart Field. The Eagles record now falls to 1-7 while the Privateer’s record improves to 2-5-1.
The Eagles held the early shot total including six shots by Samantha Cicio and four by Valerie Lasko. At the 38 minute mark, Maritime’s junior Jorrie Trenkamp broke through with the first goal of the game. Coming from Melanie Lopez, Trenkamp’s shot rang off of both posts and into the net.
In the second half, the Eagles had numerous opportunities to get the equalizer, but tough defense kept Saint Elizabeth off the scoreboard. Junior keeper Catherine De La Cruz made five saves for the game. De La Cruz is ranked 28th in the NCAA Division III for total saves and ranked 13th for minutes played in goal.
Saint Elizabeth returns to action on Friday, when the team plays against SUNY Morrisville at 12pm in Morrisville, NY.
