O'Dell Strikes Twice, Screaming Eagles Drop Heartbreaker in OT

SOMERSET, N.J. -- The Saint Elizabeth soccer team rallied from behind twice Monday afternoon, led by a pair of eye-popping goals by senior Kelly O'Dell, but it was visiting Mount Saint Vincent who scored the overtime winner for a 5-4 victory at Soccer Centers.

The Screaming Eagles dip to 2-4 on the young season while the Dolphins jumped to a 3-2 overall.

It was Mount Saint Vincent that opened the scoring on a sunny day when Brittany Kehoe touched a pass from Ashley Parise into the right side in the 12th minute of the first half.

The fireworks for CSE came in the 38th minute when senior Amy Rowe sent a corner kick into the Dolphins' penalty box. O'Dell raced in from the top of the penalty box and with one swift leap headed home her fourth goal of the season to even the game.

On the next rush into the Mount Saint VIncent end, a Dolphins defender was whistled for a hand ball and CSE was awarded a penalty kick. Saint Elizabeth senior midfielder Cassidy Crane converted the penalty -- her third score of the year -- and the home team took a 2-1 lead.

Mount Saint Vincent tied the game once again in the 41st minute and the score remained level into the intermission.

O'Dell struck again early in the second half. CSE received a free kick approximately 30 yards from the MSV goal after sizing up her options, O'Dell used her powerful right leg to rocket the ball into the top right corner of the net for a 3-2 lead.

The Dolphins answered with a pair of goals four minutes apart to regain the lead, 4-3, with nearly 20 minutes left in the game.

CSE wouldn't back down, finding the equalizer in the 84th minute. Senior Jasmine Bristol, who minutes earlier tumbled to the turf after a collision with a Dolphins defender, regrouped and won a loose ball at the top of the MSV penalty box. Her chip shot cleared the Dolphins goalie and knotted the score at 4-4.

After 90 minutes of regulation play, the game went into overtime. In the 99th minute, Mount Saint Vincent's Allison Bhadai's shot found the back of the net for her second goal of the afternoon, giving the visitors the victory.

MSV held a 12-9 shot advantage on the afternoon while CSE held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

CSE goalkeeper Catherine De La Cruz made five saves.

Saint Elizabeth is home this weekend with a 10 a.m. NEAC game on Saturday with Cazenovia at Soccer Centers, followed on Sunday by another conference battle at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Morrisville State. That game will be played in North Brunswick.
