PSU Berks slips away with victory

SOMERSET, N.J. – Penn State-Berks midfielder Alema Shumate scored in the 15th minute and the visiting Nittany Lions held off Saint Elizabeth to win 1-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference soccer action on a rainy afternoon at Soccers Center.

Shumate accepted a cross-field pass on the left side of the CSE penalty box, side stepped a CSE defender and sent a long, rolling shot just over the outstretched arm of CSE goalkeeper Catherine De La Cruz into the net at 15:06.

De La Cruz kept PSU-Berks (5-4-1, 5-1-1 NEAC) at bay the rest of the game, posting six saves In goal.

The Screaming Eagles (2-10-0, 2-5-0)play the second match of two NEAC home contests this weekend on Sunday, hosting Wells College at Soccer Centers at 12:30 p.m. The Screaming Eagles are showing their support for breast cancer awareness by hosting Think Pink Day and will be wearing pink.
