WNBA Legend Kym Hampton Speaks at CSE

Former WNBA star Kym Hampton spoke about leadership at the College of Saint Elizabeth on Tuesday.

The former Arizona State superstar played for Coach Juliene Simpson, now the Screaming Eagles Athletic Director. She played professional basketball overseas for 12 years before being drafted as the 4th overall pick by the New York Liberty in the first ever WNBA Draft.

Kym spoke about her life and the challenges she had to face when she was younger. She referenced how tough it can be sometimes as a woman to have confidence that you can succeed. When Kym graduated college, there was no professional basketball in the USA at the time. She had to go overseas and play in Europe and Asia. She emphasized that she never wanted to give up on her dream to play basketball, so she had to look elsewhere to continue her dream.

Hampton also went into detail about how she had aspirations after her basketball career to do singing as well as acting. She sang the National Anthem before the 2013 NCAA Women's National Championship game. She now also stars in the new reality TV show "Mom's Got Game" on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
