It is with great pleasure that we announce that our very own Dr. Sharon D. Hellwig, EdD, RN, CNE, will be recognized on October 24, 2012, as one of the Diva and Don Honorees by The Foundation of the New Jersey Nurses Association Institute at the Ninth Annual Benefit Gala. Dr. Hellwig was nominated by different professionals in the state of New Jersey whereby her CV (Faculty Curriculum Vi-tae) was reviewed by a board of professionals of the Institute for Nursing. She was selected as an Honoree by this board in recognition for her extraordinary work, contributions, and dedication to the nursing profession in the state of New Jersey.
The Foundation organizes this event to raise funding that provides scholarships to support future nurses. Funding for these scholarships is generated by the Gala.
Dr. Hellwig's extensive career in nursing has included positions in nursing education, acute care, community health, and health care quality. Her contributions have not only been to the state of New Jersey, but also to the College of St. Elizabeth where she previously served several years as tenured professor and the Graduate Director of Nursing. We are fortunate to currently have her serve as an adjunct professor in the graduate nursing program where she continues to motivate and mentor her students. Among other credits she has designed and implemented organization-wide quality improvement programs. Dr.Hellwig was selected by UMDNJ's School of Health Related Professions to be the Director for the Joint Associate Degree Nursing Program with Middlesex County College. While serving as an Associate Professor at St. Peter's College, she developed and taught a course in the newly created MSN Case Management Program.
