Baltimore, Md. -- Saint Elizabeth topped Notre Dame of Maryland University, 3-1, in non-conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon.

The Screaming Eagles (11-4) won by scores of 16-25, 25-6, 25-18 and 25-18.

CSE got in an early hole to start the match as Notre Dame (5-6) took an 11-7 lead. The Screaming Eagles rallied the set to 14-15, behind several kills from sophomore attack Katie Cooper.  CSE continued to trail 16-20 but the Gators went on a 5-0 run to close out the set 25-16.

Saint Elizabeth came back to take the second set, 25-6, going on a 10-2 run. Notre Dame was able to find a bit of rhythm serving five aces in a row.  Jenae Goodson broke the serving and helped the Eagles gain a 23-5 lead.  Kareemah Muhammad finished out the second set with the two final kills.

The third set was tight at 6-5 CSE, but an error on the Gators and a Katie Cooper ace would pull the Eagles with a three point lead. Notre Dame closed within two multiple times, but the Eagles still maintained the lead 19-17.  The Gators had three crucial errors and Wrights and Zuliema Molina got the final few points the Eagle’s needed to end the set 25-18.

The Screaming Eagles controlled the fourth set taking an early lead 10-3.  Amy Cooper notched two aces while her sister, Katie chipped in two kills and an ace.  Notre Dame could never regroup as the Eagles tough serving gained another four points, 14-5.  Saint Elizabeth and Notre Dame traded points but the Eagles kept the lead and Muhammad would again complete the set 25-18.

Katie Cooper and Wrights led CSE with 10 kills apiece.   Amy Cooper handed out 29 assists.

Saint Elizabeth plays at home on Tuesday against John Jay College.  First serve is at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Hall.
