Screaming Eagles Volleyball Serve Past Bloodhounds

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Saint Elizabeth continued its win streak with a 3-0 victory over John Jay on Thursday in the Bloodhound’s gym.

The Screaming Eagles took the road for the first time and came away with their first road victory of the season and their fourth win overall.  The Eagles were dominant from the service line as they pounded 23 aces [second best all-time]. Amy Cooper led the Eagles with 12 aces, who shattered the all-time record of total aces in a single match.

A 2-5 lead, the first set started off well for the Bloodhounds. CSE took over nearing the midway point of the set behind an ace by Nicole Morera with a 10-6 lead. CSE's serving yielded numerous free ball opportunities which the Eagles put away to extend the lead to 14-7 before John Jay could respond. The Eagles cruised to a 25-17 set victory.

In the second set, A. Cooper hit eight aces in a row and 13 service points before the Bloodhounds were able to get on the board. The Eagles closed out the set 25-7.

The Eagles trailed 3-7 early in the final set but Katie Cooper stepped up and hit for a couple of aces and Subhana Wrights nailed a couple of kills to tie the score at seven.  A kill by Ireyah Stevens and Morera gave the Eagles a 15-14 lead and the team never looked back as they expanded the lead to 20-16.  Although the Bloodhounds cut the lead down to one at 20-19, a key service error provided some breathing room for CSE who went on a 4-0 run to close out the match.

The Eagles hit for a .214 with 20 kills and added 4 blocks and 28 digs to the cause.

The Screaming Eagles are on the road again on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Bryn Athyn College as they take on Bryn Mawr and Bryn Athyn with 1pm and 3pm matches.
