Screaming Eagles win fourth straight volleyball match

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Saint Elizabeth continued its winning ways Wednesday night, beating visiting York (N.Y.) 3-0 in non-conference volleyball action at St. Joseph’s Hall.

The Screaming Eagles (7-2) officially won by scores of 25-0, 25-13, 25-18.

The visiting team was nearly 30 minutes late arriving to St. Joseph’s Hall and the officials declared the first set a forfeit by York.

Once live play resumed, the Screaming Eagles were already at full speed. Katie Cooper rattled off two straight aces to give CSE an early 10-3 lead. Katie Cooper would total three aces in the set.

Meanwhile on offense attack, middle Subhana Wrights tallied three kills and Amy Cooper handed out seven assists as the Screaming Eagles quickly registered a 25-13 set win.

The third set was played at an even tilt to start and at 5-5, Katie Cooper registered a kill from behind the 10-foot line to put CSE by one point.  She would go on to rattle of six kills in the set without an attack error.

With the score on set point, 24-18, Wrights put away a free ball at the net for her fifth kill of the match to give the Screaming Eagles the victory.

Katie Cooper led the team with eight kills and five aces while her sister Amy handed out 16 assists and had three aces of her own.

Saint Elizabeth will head to Brooklyn on Thursday to face The King’s College at 7 p.m. before it travels north into upstate N.Y. this weekend for its first conference pool play action. The Screaming Eagles head to SUNY Cobleskill and will play twice on Saturday, facing Cazenovia at 2 p.m. and Keuka at 6 p.m. On Sunday, CSE will take on hometown Cobleskill at 2 p.m.
