Morristown, N.J. (March 7, 2016) – The College of Saint Elizabeth will host the 2016 Spirituality Convocation, "Hope: The Spirit Ventures Forth," 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9 in Annunciation Center.
Through inspirational keynote and workshop speakers, attendees will explore the way hope empowers by seeking God's presence in life's challenges.
Dr. Nancy Pineda-Madrid, Associate Professor of Theology and Latino/Latina Ministry at Boston College, will present her keynote address, "Spirituality and Struggle: Walking With Hope." Dr. Pineda-Madrid researches Systematic Theology, Methods in Practical/Pastoral Theologies, U.S. Latino/a Theologies, Feminist Reconstructions of Redemption/Salvation, United States North American Pragmatism and Religious Thought. She is the author of Suffering and Salvation in Ciudad Juarez, and Hope: Promise, Possibility and Fulfillment.
The afternoon keynote speaker, Father Anthony Ciorra, will present, "Swimming in Mercy and Surprised by Hope." He is a leader in lay ministry formation and currently serves as Associate Vice President for Mission and Catholic Identity and Professor of Theology at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Connecticut.
Fr. Ciorra is the author of Everyday Mysticism, Moral Formation in the Parish, and Beauty: A Way to God. He was awarded the pontifical honor Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by Pope John Paul II in 1999, the Caritas Centennial Award in 2000 for his work in lay ministry, and the Spirit of Renew Award for his work in interreligious dialogue and ecumenism.
Attendees will also have the option of choosing from five fabulous workshops:
Liderazgo hispano y amor después del amor; Blessed Miriam Teresa and Her Message of Hope; An Answer to Prayer: Exploring Hope's Paradoxes; The Imagery of Hope through Poetry and Art; and The Spirituality of Pope Francis and His Message of Hope.
"A true feast of scholarship and spirituality awaits us in this year's Spirituality Convocation," said Dr. Erin Lothes, Professor of Theology at the College of Saint Elizabeth. "We are excited to welcome back Fr. Tony Ciorra, who is well known to many long-time CSE Convocation attendees, as well as Dr. Nancy Pineda-Madrid of Boston College, who has shared her powerful insights on hope and suffering with us at CSE in a dynamic lecture last spring."
