Chase Excellence Leadership Lecture Series Concludes

Morristown, N.J. (November 13, 2017) – CSE's leadership lecture series, "Chase Excellence: Finding Success in a Career You Love," concluded with speeches by Dr. Rumela Sen, a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University, and Melvi Davila, founder and executive director of PR Innovation, last week.

Sen presented her research on the role of informal networks in grassroots peacemaking in India while Melvi explained her journey from Peruvian immigrant to business owner. In total, there were four presentations in the series.

Last month, Nicole Franklin, a writer, producer, director and educator, kicked off the series with a talk about resetting the narrative on black men in the media. Next, Ralph Anderson, vice president of Deutsche Bank, gave a comprehensive presentation about how to navigate the globalized work environment productively and gracefully. Then, co-founders of RepurposeU, Dr. Jaclyn Harte and Bettina Harriman taught students how to repurpose limitation into possibility with an interactive workshop.

"This lecture series was a huge success," says Dr. Nicole Yanoso, creator of the series. "It was very well attended; the presentation space was consistently packed with students for each of the talks."

Da'Niyah Goodwin, a sophomore communication major who attended the lecture, felt that "the speakers gave excellent advice on thriving in the work field. I learned to be confident in my abilities and be comfortable with change."

"Each of the speakers had their own unique story and presentation style which underscores that success can come via many different paths," explained Yanoso.

Senior communication and English major, Maria Capozzoli, echoed Yanoso's statement by saying, "Chase Excellence allowed students to see leadership in action."
