CSE Students Coordinate Christmas Gifts for Children

Morristown, N.J. (December 11, 2017) – CSE students are ensuring that most children have a present under their tree this Christmas! For the third consecutive year, CSE students, directed by Dr. Nicole Yanoso, have coordinated a Christmas collection for the AIDS Resource Foundation for Children (ARFC) in Newark, N.J. This year, over 400 items of clothing, toys and household supplies were donated.

Yanoso, whose CSE 400 honors class also hosted a Trunk-or-Treat benefiting the ARFC in October, credits her students for the overwhelming success.

"This drive was a success because my students worked hard for the kids and families of the Foundation," says Yanoso. "Their creativity, kindness, and genuine hard work will make this holiday exceptional for so many kids this year!

The ARFC is a non-profit organization in Newark, N.J. that helps individuals, children, and families who are impacted by HIV/AIDS. They enable those with social and health-related barriers to be resilient and build healthier futures by providing transitional care for medically fragile children, supportive housing for families infected or affected by HIV/AIDS, case management and much more.

"Christmas has always been made special for me," says Diamond Yancey, '18, a member of the CSE 400 honors class. "It means a lot that we can make it special for someone else. Every child should have wonderful memories to reflect on."

Maria Capozzoli, '18, also believes deeply in giving back.

"It is always important to remember those less fortunate around the holidays, and our involvement with the foundation lets us do just that," says Capozzoli. "Can you just imagine the looks on those little faces when they receive their favorite toy?"

In addition to students, faculty, staff, community members and the Sisters of Charity were instrumental in the collection.
