History Professor Pens Book on Irish Influence in American Politics

Morristown, N.J. (November 15, 2016) – Dr. Nicole Anderson Yanoso, assistant professor of history, unveiled her new book, The Irish and the American Presidency, at a recent book signing on campus.

The inspiration for Yanoso's book came from her doctoral dissertation that she defended at Drew University in the spring of 2015. As a doctoral candidate, Yanoso found that the Irish impact on American history was fascinating.

"My real passion is the American presidency, and as I was taking many Irish studies classes, it all came together," she says.

She discovered that history had concentrated only on two dates in which the Irish had influence in the American presidency; in 1928 and 1960. Prior to her research, there had not been a comprehensive paper about the Irish and the American presidency since the birth of the nation.

Buoyed by the support of Dr. George Sirgiovanni, professor of history and her colleague, and Amira Unver, director of the Mahoney Library, Yanoso was able to determine that a book had not been written on the scope of this topic.

"Amira scoured the databases and was a great resource," she says. "George was one of my readers for my dissertation and helped me find a publisher."

Transaction Publishers of Piscataway, N.J., was the first and only firm Yanoso approached with her manuscript. "They said yes and from there the process was painless," she explains. She sent the manuscript in June, 2015, and it was published in September, 2016.

Yanoso's book can be purchased directly through her at nyanoso@cse.edu or through Transaction Publishers at www.transactionpub.com.
