September 30, 2015 (Morristown, NJ) – Michael J. Sorrell, president of Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Tex., shared his ideas on the future role of small independent colleges with CSE staff during a visit in late September. He emphasized the need for consistent review of each college's model, and the ways that each college serves the community.
As college costs nationally continue to rise, most of the higher education community explore means of creating affordable education experiences. Mr. Sorrell gave one such situation in terms of an urban work college model.
At a follow-up discussion, run by Dr. Monique Guillory, vice president for academic affairs, many ideas were offered, including attracting more students who don't see college in their futures, looking at ways to make getting an education part of a lifestyle, and expanding educational opportunities both on and off campus.
