Wendy Johnson, Vice President of Nutrition, Health and Wellness for Nestle USA, Joins Board

Morristown, N.J. (July 13, 2017) – Wendy Johnson of Silver Spring, MD accepted the invitation to join the College of Saint Elizabeth Board of Trustees. Johnson became a trustee on February 24, 2017 and will serve a three-year term.

A registered dietitian and strong proponent of healthy eating, Johnson is currently the vice president of Nutrition, Health and Wellness. In this role she leads the Nutrition Health and Wellness function, including the Medical Advocacy and Public Policy, and Corporate Communications.

Prior to joining Nestle, Johnson was employed by the National Institutes of Health in the Nutrition Research Coordination division. There she operated as public health nutrition and health policy advisor who fought to reduce general obesity and improve wellness. In fact, she was actively involved in the Surgeon General's Call to Action to Prevent and Decrease Overweight and Obesity and the Dietary Guidelines process.

Although her expertise in food and nutrition is extensive, Johnson's primary interests include determinants of eating behavior, racial and ethnic health disparities and obesity.

She is a member of several health, wellness and nutrition organizations including: the Institute of Medicine's Food Forum, the International Food Information Council Board of Directors, the American Public Health Association, where she is a former chair of the food and nutrition section, and a member of the Inter-Sectional Steering Committee.

Johnson received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Master of Public Health in Nutrition and Doctorate in Nutrition and Health Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

"Dr. Johnson brings a depth and breadth of experience so important to ongoing growth in health sciences," says Dr. Helen J. Streubert, president of the College of Saint Elizabeth. "She demonstrates a strong commitment to the values and strategic visions of the institution."
