Police Studies Institute Honors Officers During Black History Month

Morristown, N.J. (February 22, 2016) – The College of Saint Elizabeth Police Studies Institute honored six outstanding law enforcement officers during the Second Annual Black History Month Awards Celebration on February 11, 2016.

"We are honored to recognize such outstanding individuals at the College of Saint Elizabeth. These honorees represent the absolute best law enforcement has to offer," said Police Studies Institute Director and Morris County Undersheriff William Schievella.

Recognized for their contributions to the law enforcement profession and community were Chief Norma Hardy, Port Authority NY/NJ Police Department; Supervisor CBP Officer Eboni Phillips, US Customs & Border Protection; Sgt. Allan Griffin, Parsippany Troy Hills Police Department; Detective Greg Brooks, Morris County Sheriff's Office; and Officer Jamal Poyner, Millburn Police Department.

Yvonne Ballard of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives was presented with Excellence in Justice Awards from the College by Schievella.

In September 2015, the Police Studies Institute honored law enforcement professionals from the Hispanic community during the annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. And, on Wednesday, March 3, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the Annunciation Center, they will honor women in law enforcement in tribute to Women's History Month.
