Morristown, N.J. (March 29, 2016) – History can be a way to connect people with different backgrounds and raise awareness of important events in society. For Megan Cullinane, '16, it's not just a major, it's a passion.

Megan, a New Providence, N.J. resident who has always had an interest in culture, especially Asian studies, decided she wanted to be a history teacher when she was a junior in high school. Soon after, during her college search, she discovered CSE through a family friend and felt she had found her best fit. A history major with a minor in secondary education and political science, she is well on her way to pursuing her dream career.

Classes on Holocaust studies, and visits to the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education, located in Annunciation Center, are part of what ignited Megan's passion to help people get informed.

"I love studying history because it can help us to become more educated and to try and understand what has happened in the past," she said. "Not enough people know about certain historical events, and I think that should be changed."

Although she is well prepared to graduate in May, Megan will not forget her time at CSE.

"The empowerment of women here has made me more confident," she said, going on to describe her positions as treasurer of the Commuter Council and member of both the National Historical Honors Society and the CSE honors program. In addition, she has been a frequent volunteer at a food pantry through her church, Our Lady of Peace, in her hometown, and has participated in numerous clothing drives.

Currently, Megan is finishing up her student teaching at Summit Middle School and enjoying her final months at CSE before graduation. Afterward, she plans to teach and pursue graduate work in history.
