ELEMENT I POLICIES

Women's College Credit and Sequence

  • Women's College students who begin college at CSE must complete Element I Integrated Literacy sequence at CSE.

  • Women's College transfer students who have not completed English Comp I and/or II elsewhere must take the Element I Integrated Literacy sequence at CSE.

  • Transfer students who completed English Comp I and/or II elsewhere must take CSE195: Writing Seminar that orients them within the General Education Program, and determines what outcomes they still need to meet. The course will be writing intensive, and will integrate workshops and training in Mission and Values, student life, information literacy, and communication and critical thinking skills.

Continuing Studies Credit and Sequence

  • All undergraduate students must complete Element III.

  • Transfer students with AA/AS or BA/BS degrees are exempt from all General Education requirements except Element III.

  • The transcripts of transfer students with AAS degrees will be individually assessed to determine if they may also still need to complete part of the Element II requirement, in addition to Element III.

  • Non-second degree Continuing Studies students who transfer in English Comp I and/or II are exempt from the Element I sequence, but must take CSE195 Writing Seminar that orients them within the General Education Program, and determines what learning outcomes they still need to meet. The transcripts of these transfer students will also be assessed to determine if they are exempt from the college-math requirement, and all or part of the Element II requirement. If they exempt from the Element I sequence, and at least partially exempt from Element II, they will also be exempt from Element IV.

  • When necessary, and with approval from the Director of General Education, Continuing Studies students may take English Comp I and/or II at another institution for credit at CSE. These students must still take the Writing Seminar that orients them within the General Education Program, and determines what learning outcomes they still need to meet. The course will be writing intensive, and will integrate workshops and training in Mission and Values, student life, information literacy and communication and critical thinking skills.

ELEMENT II POLICY

  • In place of one of the three courses that form the Element II requirement, and with the approval of the Director of General Education, students are permitted to take and transfer in an approved course that has comparable learning outcomes, and a comparable format, from another accredited institution, provided that the maximum allowable number transfer credits has not been exceeded.
