Why did we switch to Google Apps?

The previous mail system used by the College had reached the end of its useful life.  In evaluating the options availabile, outsourcing e-mail and collaboration services to Google Apps provided the campus community with improved collaboration and messaging tools at a far more attractive price point.

I used to share my Outlook calendar with others. Can I do that with Google calendar?

Yes! In fact, sharing calendars is far simpler to achieve using Google Apps. You can follow the step-by-step instructions provided by Google for help in sharing your calendar.

What if I already have a Gmail account?

Your CSE Gmail account is completely separate from any personal Gmail accounts you may already possess and does not affect them in any way.

I use Microsoft Outlook for e-mail merges. Does Gmail offer this feature?

Google Mail does not support this feature presently. Please contact the Help Desk using this online form to ensure that your email merge needs are accommodated.

How do i configure e-mail on my mobile device (Blackberry, iPhone, etc.)

1. First, ensure that your Google password is in sync with your CSE password. You can do this at http://sso.cse.edu/changepassword.aspx. Your new password may be the same as your old password if you don't want to change it.
2. On your mobile device, open your browser and go to http://m.google.com. This will list a catalog of the mobile applications provided by Google. You will want to download and install the "Gmail" application. If you also want to sync your contacts and calendar, download and install the "Sync" application. You can read more about this at http://www.google.com/mobile/mail/
3. Open the Gmail application. It should prompt you to authenticate with your CSE e-mail address and your password. If you have completed Step 1, you should not have any problems logging in and accessing your e-mail. Setting up the Sync application requires that you authenticate with your e-mail address and CSE password, as well.
