Job Description

The Director of Instructional Technology fosters an environment of innovative and effective instruction at the College of Saint Elizabeth through the use of instructional technologies; provides leadership and support for online education in program development and course design; works to increase the adoption of instructional technology among faculty and students with a focus on faculty development; researches, recommends and implements new and emerging instructional technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides college-wide training, support, and guidance in instructional technologies directly, and by managing the Academic Technicians. This includes consulting with Faculty, Chairs and Deans to determine their instructional technology needs; conducting group and individual training for the Learning Management System (LMS) and the pedagogical use of instructional technology; and providing instructional design assistance with curricula for traditional, distance and online learning.
  • Through personal and industry knowledge; researches new college, academic and instructional technology developments, makes recommendations for the improvement of existing instructional technologies and the addition/upgrade of existing.  This includes developing, implementing and tracking pilot instructional design and technology projects for applicability for further college use and development; researching new initiatives for integrating technology into the pedagogy; assisting and encouraging faculty to integrate technology into the learning environment; designing, planning and tracking new computer lab installations and updates; and serving as a member of the Academic Technology Committee.
  • Responsible for the production and maintenance of instructional technology documentation and procedure manuals and providing guidance to faculty in producing and maintaining their own documentation.
  • Responsible for overall supervision, performance, evaluations, job descriptions, and coordination of the team efforts of the Academic Technicians and the Help Desk Manager and Technicians employed in the units who aid and support faculty, staff and students for technical support.
  • Responsible for operating budget tracking, purchases, and making recommendations for future purchases of equipment and software for the campus community. 
  • In conjunction with the Chief Technology Officer, IT staff, faculty, and administrators, aids in the development of the College’s Strategic Plan for Technology.
  • In conjunction with the appropriate college offices, prepares grant proposals and explores potential funding sources to support College instructional technology activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology or related area, with a Doctorate preferred; three years managerial and technical experience in instructional technology, distance education, and faculty training (preferably in higher ed.); instructional teaching experience, preferably on the undergraduate and graduate levels; supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience as determined by the Chief Technology Officer.
Experience in instructional technology teaching, planning and development. Knowledge and experience teaching the use of a modern learning management system (LMS). Specific experience using and teaching Moodle preferred. Required to interface will all members of the organization, being open to their suggestions and responsive to their perceptions of the needs of the organization. Flexible and capable of acclimating to diverse situations and personalities.
Good working knowledge of Windows 7, Apple Mac and Microsoft Office suite of products. Ability to invoke confidence, interface and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel, administrative users, staff, faculty and students. Must possess excellent oral, presentation and written communicative skills, be a quick learner, self-motivated, patient, and be able to work in stressful situations, and at times willing to work flexible hours.
