Joyce Daly Margie '62 Mother Xavier Award 1986        Joyce majored in Home Economics and later received an M.A. from the University of Maryland. She has established herself as a nationally known nutritionist and writer. As a clinical nutritionist, her career has included associations with the Mayo Clinic and hospitals in the Washington, D.C., area. Joyce has specialized in diets for specific health conditions. She has been a nutrition consultant for the National Institutes of Health, the Mayo Clinic, other health and medical organizations, publishers and private industry. Joyce is the co-author of The Mayo Clinic Renal Diet Cookbook, Living with High Blood Pressure: The Hypertension Diet Cookbook, Living Better - Recipes for a Healthy Heart, Nutrition and the Cancer Patient, and The All-In-One Diabetic Cookbook. Joyce also worked as editor of a medical education newsletter and has written for professional journals, magazines and other publications. She has lectured to medical and nutrition professionals and has appeared on many radio and TV programs. Joyce has served on boards and advisory committees for her children's schools and colleges, the City of Summit (NJ), and other civic and volunteer organizations. In 1997 she was elected to the City of Summit's Common Council. The Community Food Bank of New Jersey, YMCA, United Way, and The Summit Association for Gerontological Endeavor have recognized her as their Volunteer of the Year. Joyce received the Mother Xavier Award in 1986. She attributes her education and experience at CSE to teaching her how to balance the important aspects of her life - family, career, and the need to serve and give back to society.
