Muriel Dawson Gerbino '36
Mother Xavier Award 1960

       Muriel earned her B.S. degree in Home Economics. She went on to further graduate study in Home Economics at New York University, and in Education of Handicapped Children at Hunter College. She worked briefly for the Social Security Administration, followed by a year as a dietitian at New York Infirmary, Women and Children. From 1938-49 Muriel was a dietitian-teacher at Saint Joseph Hospital. She spent the year after that as a teacher of retarded children in the Passaic County public-school system. Muriel has been long active in Alumnae Association activities; she has held various offices, including a term as President from 1958-61. Muriel was Chairperson of the Science Department of Hawthorne High School, Hawthorne NJ, from 1962-75. She also has devoted much time to volunteer-service activities for Mount Carmel Church, the Mount Carmel Rosary Altar Society, the Red Cross, the March of Dimes, Valley Hospital, and the Girl Scouts. Muriel received the Mother Xavier Award in 1960.
