ORIENTATION

Counseling Services coordinates the First Year Student Orientation Program, which helps students in their social, academic, and residential or commuting adjustments to college life.

Fall

  • Three-day program of fun activities and necessary information sharing
    Sample list of events
  • Helpful hints to assist students in getting off to a good start at college
  • Acquaints student with the services, opportunities, and privileges available to them as CSE students
  • 34 student Orientation Leaders provide peer guidance to new students
  • Offers new students an opportunity to connect with each other and form relationships that will last for years to come
  • Opportunity to develop school pride and understand the mission of CSE
  • Provides parents with information about college life and helps them to foster the independence of their adult student

Spring

  • Abridged afternoon program of informative programs and social interaction
    Sample list of events
  • Helpful advice to help you adjust to a new college mid-year
  • Some peers who have successfully transferred to CSE share their experiences
  • Academic, Student Life and Computing programs
  • Opportunity to develop school pride and understand the mission of CSE

DAY 1
9:00am - 1:00pm - Check-In

* Residents students move in
* Commuter students staying overnight move in

11:00am - 1:00pm - Check-In
* Commuter students not staying overnight can register
* Commuter student I.D. photos will be taken

11:00am - 1:00pm - Lunch

1:15pm - 2:00pm - Welcoming Remarks - Vice Presidents' Panel

2:00pm - 3:30pm - Letting Go - Parent Orientation - Parents
Getting to Know You - Students and Team Leaders

3:30pm - 4:30pm - Refreshments
* Opportunities to address individual concerns about financial aid, residence life, billing,
registration, and parking.
* ID photos

4:00pm - 4:30pm - Commuter Connections
* All Commuter students

4:30pm - 4:45pm - Ready, Set, Go - The Departure
* All parents and extended family depart campus

4:45pm - 5:30pm - Meet the President and the Student Life Staff

5:30pm - 6:30pm - Dinner with Teams
* Work on Team Projects

6:30pm - 8:30pm - Service Project

8:30pm - Residence Life Overview - Meetings on individual floors with members of Residence Life staff
* Commuters not staying overnight are free to depart

DAY 2
8:30am - 9:00am - Breakfast

9:00am - 10:00am - ID photos

10:00am - 3:30pm - "Spirit of New Jersey" Boat Cruise

3:30pm - 4:30pm - Refreshments and Free Time - ID photos

4:30pm - 5:30pm - Internet Introduction

5:30pm - 6:30pm - Dinner

6:30pm - 7:30pm - Making College Count

7:30pm - 8:30pm - So This is CSE - WAVE Peer Theatre performance

8:30pm - Team Meetings and Ice Cream Social

9:30pm - Music, Videos, and Snacks in the Residence Halls
* Commuters are welcome!

DAY 3
8:30am - 9:00am - Breakfast

9:00am - 10:30am - Making Healthy Choices
* Handling new freedoms, possibilities and pitfalls

10:30am - 11:00am - Academics, Advisers, and You

11:00am - 11:30am - Money Matters
* Information about student employment, financial aid, and scholarships

11:30am - 11:45am - Security Issues
* Learn safety tips

11:45am - 12:00pm - Class Meeting
* Campus involvement and leadership opportunities

12:00pm - 2:00pm - Project Presentation and Lunch

2:00pm - 4:00pm - Id Photos, Last Chance!!!
