CSE Faculty Members Present at International Conference at Yad Vashem

Co-directors of the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE) Holocaust Education Resource Center Dr. Harriet Sepinwall and Sr. Kathleen Flanagan flew to Jerusalem to attend the Sixth Annual International Conference on the Holocaust Education, July 7 – 10, 2008.

 

Hosted at the International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem, the Conference welcomed more than 700 educators from 52 countries. This year’s theme center on “Teaching the Shoah: Fighting Racism and Prejudice.”

Mr. Gutter was one of two Holocaust survivors to be interviewed by Danish filmmaker Jon Bang Carlson in his film, “Purity Beats Everything,” which was shown at the College of Saint Elizabeth on Wednesday and Thursday, March 12 & 13, 2008. The film delves deep into the layers underlying Nazism’s purity ideals, traces of which, the filmmaker contends, still exist today. (Photo by Courtney Smolen)

CSE Blesses New High-Tech Holocaust Center, Nov. 5, 2007

Three hundred members from campus and surrounding communities gathered at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), Morristown, N.J., Monday, November 5, 2007, to witness in the blessing of the College’s new Holocaust Education Resource Center, housed within CSE Annunciation Center.

Executive Director of NJ Commission on Holocaust Education Receives Prestigious Award from CSE, Nov. 5, 2007

On Monday, November 5, the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), Morristown, N.J. will bestow upon New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education’s Executive Director Dr. Paul B. Winkler its prestigious Caritas Award for his efforts in genocide and prejudice reduction.

CSE Seeks Generations of the Shoah: College to Pay Homage to Past Participants at 18th Week of Holocaust Remembrance, Nov. 5, 2007

As the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), prepares to mark 18 years of its Week of Holocaust Remembrance, its Holocaust Education Resource Center (HERC) is extending a special invitation to Holocaust survivors and to the children of survivors in the Second Generation who have participated in previous remembrance programs at CSE. The College will honor these special individuals at its 18th annual Kristallnacht Commemoration, on Monday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m.

600 Celebrate Dedication of CSE Annunciation Center, Sept. 8, 2007

The College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), Morristown, N.J., welcomed 600 attendees during its Annunciation Center Opening and Open House event. This new building is the College’s first arts and education building since its establishment in 1899 and the first building to be constructed on campus in more than four decades.

The College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), during its 109th academic year, marks a magnificent moment in its history on Saturday, September 8, 2007, at 2 p.m. Community members are invited to join CSE for an Open House and Dedication of Annunciation Center, CSE’s First Performing Arts Center since its establishment in 1899, and the first building to be constructed on the campus in more than 40 years.

CSE Student Marie Noël to Speak at Madison-Florham Park Interfaith-Holocaust Remembrance, April 16

College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, NJ, Women’s College student Marie Noël, ‘07, of Pleasantville, NJ, has been invited to speak at the Interfaith Council of Madison and Florham Park for its Yom Hashoah program of Holocaust Remembrance. College of Saint Elizabeth Student Promotes Prejudice Reduction at the United Nations Annual Holocaust Day

Monday, January 29, 2007 marked the 62nd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz – the Nazi’s most notorious death camp during World War II.

 

The day also marked the second International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. Sponsored by the United Nations’ (UN) Department of Public Information, the day’s theme was the “Focus on Youth and the Lessons of the Holocaust.”

 

Among the distinguished speakers was College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, NJ, Women’s College student Marie Mirlande Noël, ‘07, of Pleasantville, NJ. Ms. Noël spoke to the international community about her travels to Poland in May 2006 on the March of Remembrance and Hope program: an educational leadership program designed to teach students of different religious and ethnic backgrounds about the dangers of intolerance through the study of the Holocaust and to promote better relations among people of diverse cultures. She spoke about the concentration camps that she, and her fellow peers visited, and how she is taking up the cause of Holocaust remembrance.

Faculty News: Dr. Harriet Sepinwall Attends NCEA, Presents a Workshop

Dr. Harriet Sepinwall, professor of Education and Interdisciplinary Studies and co-director of CSE Holocaust Education Resource Center, gave a workshop, with Sr. Joseph Spring, SCC at the National Catholic Educational Association Convention (NCEA) in Atlanta, April 2006 entitled, “Lest We Forget: Goals, Strategies, and Resources for Teaching about the Holocaust in Catholic Schools.” Established in 1904, the NCEA is the largest private professional education organization in the world, representing 200,000 Catholic educators serving 7.6 million students in Catholic elementary and secondary schools, in religious education programs, in seminaries and in colleges and universities.

CSE Sheds Light on Holocaust During its Annual Week of Remembrance

Members of the general public, students and staff of the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, NJ, came together on Monday, October 30, 2006 to its first event of its annual Prelude and Week of Holocaust Remembrance, which runs from October 30 - November 10, 2006. Held in CSE Mahoney Library Octagon, the College welcomed Holocaust survivor, Benjamin Abeles as the College’s first keynote speaker.
