A Real Family of Teachers Chooses CSE Education Programs

The Ricadela family is truly a “special family” of teachers in more ways than one. Jennifer Ricadela,’05, was the first in her family to graduate from the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE) with a Masters in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Psychology, but, she won’t be the last.  This September 27, will be an unforgettable day for the Ricadela family when Ms. Ricadela, as the keynote speaker at the CSE Induction Ceremony for the Education Department, welcomes her mother Helen Ricadela into the education program.  In addition, her father and sister who are also both currently attending CSE for a degree in special education will be in the audience, making it a true family affair.

Jennifer Ricadela

Ms. Ricadela credits the loving support and diversity of  her family as well as the network of support she received from CSE for giving her the solid foundation from which she launched her successful career as a multiple disabilities teacher.  She currently teaches at the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Newark, NJ.  “I was about 13 when I knew I wanted to be a teacher,” said Ms. Ricadela.  “I would play school with my siblings, including foster children, and I was always the teacher.  At that time I also volunteered in a program in Paterson, NJ that helped keep at-risk children off the streets.  From that time on, I always had a soft spot for the underdog and knew I wanted to help children who couldn’t help themselves.”
