CSE Adult Student Receives Scholarship from The Junior League of Morristown
College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE) adult student Amy MacCrea of Hillsborough, N.J. has recently been awarded the “Women Moving Forward” scholarship from The Junior League of Morristown, Inc. (JLM) at its annual dinner held at The Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, N.J.
The Women Moving Forward scholarship was newly created by the JLM for women 40 years of age and older, who are currently enrolled in an accredited college program after taking time away from school.
Ms. MacCrea, who is pursuing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications at the College’s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies, was chosen from a pool of women for this year’s scholarship, based upon her steadfast commitment in furthering her education as well as her active participation within her community.
“The Junior League of Morristown is so very proud to award our Women Moving Forward scholarship to Amy MacCrea of the College of Saint Elizabeth,” said Chris Colby, president of JLM. “Amy’s outstanding contributions to her community made this decision unanimous and we look forward to hearing about her future successes.”
For nearly two decades, Ms. MacCrea has dedicated her life in assisting children in all areas of personal and educational needs. When she is not working as an instructional assistant for the Autism Program at the Hillsborough Board of Education, Ms. MacCrea can be found working in a variety of charitable establishments:
- The Jonathan Cancer Fund (JCF) in Syracuse, N.Y. – Ms. MacCrea was one of the founding members who began the organization in 1993, in loving memory of her son, Jonathan, who died of leukemia. The JCF provides assistance to children and their families who have been diagnosed with cancer. The JCF offers financial assistance, money management services, and food, phone and gas cards.
- The Long Beach Island Historical Association in Beach Haven, N.J. – Ms. MacCrea and her mother-in-law regularly help out in various fundraising events throughout the summer. Ms. MacCrea credits her mother-in-law as the driving force behind their efforts, as it was her way of giving back to the community.
- Tools for Schools at Woods Road Elementary School in Hillsborough, N.J. – in which Ms. MacCrea works with a committee of parents, teachers and administration who work together in providing a safe, comfortable and productive environment for students.
In accepting this award, Ms. MacCrea said, “I would like to thank the amazing group of women from The Junior League of Morristown for their commitment in improving the lives of others by recognizing the need to assist older students in achieving their educational goals.”
The Junior League of Morristown, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
The association reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to volunteerism. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Congratulations Amy on receiving this well-deserved award!
