Owens Named “Woman of the Year” by NJAIAW; CSE Swim Team Gains Highest Academic Honor in NJ
CSE Softball Captain Michelle Owens, ’08, was honored this month as one of the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women’s (NJAIAW) “Woman of the Year” at the National Girls and Women in Sport Day held at Seton Hall University on Sunday, February 3, 2008.
Ms. Owens was ranked in the top 15 in the nation last year hitting at a .370, and was second in the nation in RBI’s. This, along with her strong academic showing, maintaining a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 made Ms. Owens the easy choice for the “Woman of the Year Award.”
The celebration, held by the NJAIAW, began with the awarding of the Team Academic Award for a Winter Sport to the College of Saint Elizabeth’s swim team for the second year in a row.
This award was given to the women’s winter sports team with the best grade point average in the state of New Jersey. The College of Saint Elizabeth’s swim team did not only have the highest winter sport GPA of 3.707, they also had the highest GPA of all sport teams in the state, including those honored in the spring and fall seasons.
This is a huge honor for the team, as they beat out such colleges as Princeton, Seton Hall, Rutgers and Drew University to win the award.
Go Eagles!
