Classes Begin Jan. 14 for Joint CSE/CCM Business Program

When spring semester classes start at CSE on January 14, 2008, a new door is opening for students from County College of Morris (CCM). On that date, the first students in a joint CSE-CCM business degree program will begin classes. The program allows students to transfer up to 96 credits from CCM to CSE, and complete a bachelor’s degree at CSE through flexible evening, weekend and on-line programs.

“In today’s economy, an increasing number of students begin their undergraduate education at county colleges. Therefore, we have designed programs that allow these students to easily and efficiently continue their education at CSE,” said Carol-Lynn Smith, director of Continuing Studies and Saturday Fast Track® admissions at CSE. “Through a combination of off-site, on-line, evening and weekend classes, we have streamlined our bachelor’s degree programs. Students in justice studies and nursing have used this system for several years, and now we have extended that to business students.”

The first student to enroll in this joint business program is Jessica Aranciba, from Mine Hill. She found the program in CCM’s course catalog and took immediate advantage.

“I finished my associate’s degree at CCM in May 2007, and was looking for a convenient way to obtain a bachelors degree,” said Ms. Aranciba. “The CSE program is great because I work full time, but can still finish my degree. I am registered for some evening and Saturday classes. Some of them are in seven-week sessions, so I expect to finish my degree fairly quickly.” With her concentration in management, she is taking classes at CSE in Management in A Global Society, Social and Legal Environment, and Management Skills. Simultaneously, she will take general education classes at CCM.

“I like business and want to finish my bachelor’s degree,” said Ms. Aranciba. “Right now, I am balancing work, family and college, but I know I can do it. Some day, I want to start a business with my father, maybe in the import/export area.”
