CSE Students Serve at Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown
Foods and Nutrition students at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), served an entire meal to hundreds of clients at the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, N.J., on December 4, 2007, after gaining the experience necessary through weeks of CSE course time gained during their Quantity Foodservice Production Class.
Dr. Sonia Hartunian-Sowa, assistant professor of the CSE Foods and Nutrition Department, said, “What is noteworthy is that the students effectively have learned to cook a ‘quantity meal.’ And, over the past two weeks, have prepared soup, two entrees, breads, desserts, and salad for 230 people.”

According to Dr. Hartunian-Sowa, representatives of the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown took the time prior to the serving of food to talk with CSE students about the uniqueness of the Morristown facility and the variety of people who attend lunch daily.
“I am proud to have provided this opportunity, especially since many students have remarked that it was a rewarding experience,” Dr. Hartunian-Sowa said.
