CSE Announces New Board of Trustees Members; Welcomes Returning Members



The College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), Morristown, NJ, is pleased to announce the appointment of four new members to its Board of Trustees: Francis J. Mertz, Sister Rosemary Moynihan, S.C., Katherine A. Regan, and Steven M. Rose and welcomes returning members Emma N. Byrne and Peter V. Mancuso.  In announcing the newly appointed and returning board members, President Sister Francis Raferty said, “the spiritual, educational, financial and health care experience of these individuals when collectively joined will serve as a beacon to successfully guide the path of the College well into the next century.”

 

Francis J. Mertz

 

• Francis J. Mertz was the 2002 recipient of the College of Saint Elizabeth degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa.  He is president emeritus of Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU).  He earned a B.A. in Economics from Saint Peter’s College and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from New York University Law School.  He was President of the Independent College Fund of New Jersey and the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in New Jersey and was director of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, Summit Bancorp and its lead subsidiary, Summit Bank.  He served as a member of the boards of the New Jersey Educational Facilities Authority and the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority.  He has been a member of the American Council on Education’s Committee on International Education, the Association of Governing Board’s Council of Presidents.  He has been a member of the Board of Trustees at Felician College, Iona College, FDU, and Seton Hall University (Board of Regents).  Honorary degrees were also conferred on him by Felician College, Stevens Institute of Technology, Kyungnam University and FDU.  Presently, he is chair of the boards of the Cusack Care Center in Jersey City.

 

 

Sr. Rosemary Moynihan

 

• Sister Rosemary Moynihan, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, received her B.A. in Sociology from the College of Saint Elizabeth in 1968 and continued her education at Columbia University School of Social Work where she received a M.S. in Social Work.  In 1996, she completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work at New York University School of Social Work.  She has been the manager of Community Mental Health at Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and the assistant director, Department of Social Work at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  She has served as a board member for several health care institutions including, the TriState Health Care System, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Columbia University School of Social Work.  She was also president of the Board of Directors of the Bon Secours Charity Health System in Suffern, New York, a member of the Board of Directors, St. Paul’s Mental Health Center, New York, New York  and a trustee for Emmaus House, Rehabilitation Program for Religious Women, Ocean Grove, New Jersey.  Recently, Sister Rosemary completed eight years on the leadership team of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and began a new ministry as Director of Ecology and Global Ministries for the Bon Secours Health System, Inc. in Marriottsville, Maryland. In this role she will be assisting the Health System to go “Green” and to establish a global health outreach program to developing countries.

 

 

Katherine A. Regan

 

• Katherine A. Regan received her B.A. in Liberal Arts from Fairleigh Dickinson in 1979 and went on to earn her Masters Degree in Information Management/Information Technology from Stevens Institute of Technology.  She began her information technology career as director of Administration/Media Planning and Research Service and as office automation manager for Grey Advertising, New York, New York.  For over 20 years, she has worked at United Parcel Service (UPS) where she is currently applications manager responsible for the resource management and budget processes for Billing Systems.  Prior to her current position at UPS, she had been manager for several departments including administration, office automation/end user computing, service management, external customer support and data center operations.

 

 

Steven M. Rose

 

• Steven M. Rose, is president of Passaic County Community College. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Passaic County Community College. A graduate of Muhlenberg College with a B.A. in Political Science, he completed his Doctor of Education degree at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey in 1992. He is chair of NJ Association of Colleges and Universities, New Jersey Council of Colleges’ Facilities Committees and the United Way of Passaic County.  He is a member of the New Jersey President’s Council Executive Board, Greater Paterson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and is treasurer, Passaic County Community College Foundation Board of Trustees. He has served as committee member or chair on several educational and community boards, including New Jersey President’s Council Advocacy Committee, Passaic County K-16 Educational Alliance, and Greater Newark Alliance for Minority Participation.  He was president, Passaic County Community College Administrators Association.

 

 

Emma N. Byrne

 

• Emma N. Byrne received a B.A. in History from the College of Saint Elizabeth in 1965 and served on the College’s board from 1988-1991.  She was president of the College’s Alumnae/i Association from 1985 - 1987 and was an honoree at the second annual Scholarship & Excellence Dinner.  Currently, she is president of her own public affairs consulting firm.  She is the retired director of Corporate Communications and Federal Affairs for PSEG (Public Service Enterprise Group) of Newark, NJ.  She was the state director for U.S. Senator Bill Bradley and acted as a senior advisor for the Bradley for President Campaign in 1999.  She served in the administration of Governor Jim Florio, first as press secretary to the Governor, the first woman to hold that position, and then as director of the N.J. Division of Consumer Affairs.  She is a member of the Board of Trustees of The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and a former member of the Board of Directors for The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and of the UMDNJ Dental School Foundation. She was founding member of Gilda’s Club of North Jersey. In 2004, she was named “PR Professional of the Year” by the N.J. chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

 

 

Peter V. Mancuso

  

• Peter V. Mancuso was the 2006 recipient of the College’s degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa. He served on the College’s board for three consecutive terms from 1992 to 2001. A graduate of Fordham University with a B.S. in Economics, he continued his studies at New York University where he earned an M.B.A. in Finance from the Graduate School of Business.  He retired as Managing Director of the Performance Specialist Group and former Senior Partner of Buttonwood Specialist Group, LLC.  He was a Governor and Senior Floor Official of the New York Stock Exchange and was Chairman for the New York Stock Exchange’s 200th Birthday Celebration. He has served as trustee or committee chair on many civic organizations including County College of Morris, Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morris Museum, Colonial Symphony, Community Theater, Market Street Mission, Museum of Early Trades and the New Jersey Olympic Committee. His political career included serving as Mayor, Committeeman, Police Commissioner and Finance Chairman for Morris Township, N.J.
