Making History

In the 2009-2010 season the Eagles gained a lot of experience from their fall non-conference competition that would carry over into their success of their first season in the NEAC. Led by Head Coach Pat Zakur they went on an epic run winning their last 5 matches bringing them close to a playoff finishing 4-3 in the Conference. 

The Eagles last five matches consisted of wins over SUNY Cobleskill, in a non-conference match, 6 to 3. Penn-State Harrisburg winning 5-4 and Wilson College 6-3 from excellent play by Amelia Joseph, Kim Kovacs, Kimberly Christel, and Yanick Pepe. Against 8-1 win over Penn-State Abington, the Eagles swept all of the singles victories and two of the three doubles. First doubles team, Shanah Orie and Lisa Giambrone beat their opponent 8 to 0.

With having such success at a crucial time in their season, individuals were able to compete in the NEAC championships. Senior, Amelia Joseph qualified for #3 singles, Kim Christel qualified #4 singles, Yanick Pepe was invited to compete in the #5 singles, and Kim Kovacs was invited to play #6 singles were she made it to the championship match. Also advancing to the championship match was the team of Amelia Joseph and Kim Kovacs.

Besides making the playoffs Kim Christel, Kim Kovacs, and the team of Amelia Joseph and Kim Kovacs were named to Second Team all Conference. Early in the season, Kim Christel, Lisa Giambrone, and Kim Kovacs were honored as student-athletes of the week. The Eagles finished fourth overall in the NEAC.
