The College of St Elizabeth used a big first half to power past Wilson College 84-27 on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles raced out of the gate quickly opening up a 9-0 lead behind Cheyenne Grant’s outside shooting. On Senior Day, Subhana Wrights scored back to back buckets to give the Eagles a 15-0 lead. The defense was the story early on, forcing 11 turnovers in the first 8 minutes of action. Valerie Lasko kept the offense running with 3 fast break baskets, ballooning the lead to 35-15. Grant nailed another 3 pointer to extend the Eagles lead to 42-18.
The Eagles kept the pressure up, forcing 21 first half turnovers. With 2:21 remaining in the half, Wrights grabbed her own offensive rebound and put it back, to give the Eagles a 48-20 lead. The Eagles went into the break with a 50-22 lead. Grant finished with 11 points and Lasko had 10 points for the Eagles in the first half. Kelly O’Dell filled the stats sheet up in the first half, totaling 9 points, 7 assists, 5 steals, and 4 rebounds. The Eagles also shot 57% in the first half.
The Screaming Eagles continued to dominate in the second half. CSE opened up the half going on an incredible 23-0 run, giving the Eagles a 73-22 lead. Alivia Roseboro helped lead the run, scoring 6 points and forcing 2 turnovers during the run. The Eagles defense continued to be the story, forcing 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the half. Sharolin Sanders knocked down a jumper from the top of the key to give the Eagles an 80-24 lead. The Eagles closed the game out, winning 84-27.
Kelly O’Dell starred in her last ever home game at CSE, recording her second triple-double of the season, 12 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists, and 5 steals. 6 different Eagles finished in double figures, including Subhana Wrights who finished with 10 points. The Eagles open up the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday when the travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Gallaudet University.
