The College of St Elizabeth's softball team dropped a doubleheader to Lancaster Bible, losing 8-0 and 9-5 on Saturday.
In game 1, Christina Scolaro found herself in a first inning jam on the mound. With 2 outs and the bases loaded, Scolaro got a groundball back to the mound, getting the force at home and holding the Chargers scoreless through 1. The Chargers got on the board in the 2nd inning, bringing 4 runs across the plate thanks to 2 errors by the Eagles. Lancaster Bible tacked on 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd inning, opening up a 6-0 lead on the Eagles. The Eagles struggled at the plate, getting no hit by Lancaster's Kelsey Collin's. Lancaster Bible added 2 more runs before beating the Eagles 8-0 in 5 innings.
The second game did not start as planned for the Eagles. Lancaster Bible plated 4 runs across in the first to take an early 4-0 lead. After a rough first inning, Danesha Triplett settled down on the mound, throwing a 1-2-3 2nd inning. Leading off the bottom of the 2nd inning, Alessandria DeSapio drove a fastball over the left centerfield wall for her second home run of the season, cutting the lead to 4-1.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Nicole Morera lined a single up the middle, driving home Kristine Brady-Downs and Valerie Lasko, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Threating in the 4th, the Eagles got the tying run across the plate thanks to a passed ball. Despite having the bases loaded and 1 out, the Eagles failed to score any more runs, leaving it tied at 4 heading to the 5th inning. In the top of the 5th, the Chargers scored 2 runs to regain the lead, 6-4. Lancaster Bible tacked on 2 more runs in the 6th, opening up an 8-4 lead.
Christiana Scolaro drove home Lasko in the bottom of the 6th inning to bring the Eagles to within 3. Unfortunately, the Chargers added a run in the 7th inning before winning the game 9-5. The Eagles return to action on Sunday when they host Penn St Berks at 1 pm.
