The College of St Elizabeth lacrosse team fell in their opening game at Rosemont College, 9-6 on Saturday.
The Screaming Eagles got off to a slow start, falling behind 3-0 just 8 minutes into the game. Despite 3 early goals, goalie Sarah Briant notched 9 saves in the first half. The offense for the Eagles got 4 shots on goal in the first half, all of which were saved by Rosemont. Rosemont added 2 more late in the half to take a 5-0 lead into halftime.
The Eagles came out ready to play in the second half. Kelly O'Dell scored her first career goal at the 28:33 mark to cut the lead to 5-1. Nicole Rios quickly followed with a goal just a minute later to bring the Eagles to within 3. Rosemont countered with a goal of their own before O'Dell ripped another goal, to cut the lead to 6-3.
Rosemont added another goal before Nicole Rios added her second goal of them game. Dana Mortensen quickly followed that up with a goal of her own, to bring the Eagles to within 7-5. The Eagles however couldn't get any closer, ultimately falling to Rosemont 9-6.
Sarah Briant lead the Eagles in goal with 15 saves. In her first career game, Kelly O'Dell notched a hat trick. Nicole Rios also added 2 goals, and Dana Mortensen added one. The Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they travel to New York to take on SUNY Maritime.
