Screaming Eagles celebrate NCAA Division III week

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The College of Saint Elizabeth athletic department celebrated NCAA Division III week April 8-15. The purpose of the celebration is to acknowledge the activities and accomplishments of student-athletes on Division III campuses.

On Monday, the athletic department gave away 100 white t-shirts with NCAA Division III and the three words that describe Division III athletes; discover, develop and dedicate written down the side of the shirt. The students tie-dyed their shirts in blue, green or pink and wore them the next day to the softball game. Close to 95 students participated in the tie-dying event.

On Tuesday, the Screaming Eagles softball team hosted a home doubleheader against Cedar Crest College and held a National Student-Athlete Day ceremony. National Student-Athlete Day honors those student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or higher as well as being actively involved in community service on- and off-campus. The ceremony took place in-between the doubleheader honoring 35 student-athletes.  Giveaways and baskets of CSE athletic items were given away to lucky fans.

Volunteering time to help those in need is very much in line with the Division III philosophy. The students of Saint Elizabeth decorated journals for young sexual assault victims on Wednesday. In recognition of sexual assault awareness month, the students and athletes wrote quotes, used stickers, and colored the journals and a total of 14 were donated to Morris CARES. Thursday was team spirit day for all the Screaming Eagle athletic teams. Each team was assigned a color and the first team to report in the most in that color won. The lacrosse team had the most team spirit, wearing the color pink. The Spring Eagle Rally was also hosted on Thursday during lunchtime to introduce the spring athletic teams. In addition students and staff played BINGO in order to win free prizes.

To finish up the week, the athletic department hosted volleyball games for students, staff and faculty to participate in. Individuals from information technology, facilities, student life and two student teams competed in multiple games. Information technology and one of the student teams, the Triple Touch Terrors, tied for first place.

In conjunction with DIII week, the College of Saint Elizabeth Safety Committee hosted Anti-Bullying week offering a wide variety of events for students to attend. Some of the events included Stomp Out Stereotypes, Diversity and Desserts and Chalk for a Change Block Party.

 All CSE teams finished celebrating NCAA Division III week on the road this past weekend coming home with a couple victories.
