The College of Saint Elizabeth's softball team dropped their final doubleheader of the season on Saturday at Penn State Berks, losing 16-5 and 10-2.
Christina Scolaro couldn't have got the Eagles off to a better start in game 1, hitting a lead off home run to dead center. Sharolin Sanders followed a few batters later by ripping a 2 RBI double in the gap, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead. Berks quickly tied things up in the bottom of the 1st, scoring 3 runs to square the game up at 3. In the top of the 3rd inning, Ashley Pledger singled home Valerie Lasko to regain the Eagles the lead at 4-3.
The Nittanty Lions took back the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 4 runs to take a 7-3 lead. Berks would blow the game wide open in the next inning, scoring 9 runs to take a 16-3 lead into the top of the 5th inning. The Eagles were able to score 2 runs in the top of the 5th but it was not enough as they dropped they contest 16-5.
In game 2, the Nittany Lions came out swinging, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Berks was able to add 5 more runs in the second inning off pitcher Danesha Triplett to take a 7-0 lead. At the plate, the Eagles managed to add base runners in 3 of the 4 innings, however couldn't get any across the plate. Penn State added 1 run in the 3rd inning and 2 in the 4th to open up a 10-0 lead. In the top of the 5th inning, the Eagles finally got on the board when Valerie Lasko lined an RBI single up the middle. Christina Scolaro followed with an RBI single of her own to cut the lead to 8. The Eagles were unable to score any more runs, losing the game 10-2.
The Eagles finish the season with a 7-20 record and a 3-16 record in the NEAC.
