The Screaming Eagles traveled to Washington, D.C. to take on Gallaudet University Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles once again got off to a slow start in the first half. CSE shot just 17% from the floor including 0-9 on three point attempts. Kelly O’Dell was once again a force to be reckoned with, scoring 9 points and snatching 14 rebounds on the day. Ashley Pledger added 5 of her 10 points in the first half.
Despite the Eagles struggling from the field, their defense once again stepped up when needed. CSE held Gallaudet to just 27% from the field in the first half on 9-33 shooting. Despite CSE’s struggles, they trailed just 23-16 going into the break.
Danesha Triplett helped the Eagles in the second half, finishing with 21 points and 13 rebounds, her second double-double in as many games. The second half continued to be a back and forth struggle as the Eagles could not seem to close the gap. Ashley Pledger also finished with a double-double, tallying 10 points and 11 rebounds on the night. Despite the Eagles improving their shooting in the second half, they dropped the contest to Gallaudet 58-52.
On Sunday, The Eagles traveled to New York City to take on Yeshiva University. Determined to not have another slow start, the Eagles got out to an early 27-22 lead mid-way through the first half. Ashley Pledger continued her scoring success, pouring in 21 points on the day. The Screaming Eagles kept the pressure on, closing out the half with a 43-36 lead.
The defense continued to be the story in the second half. CSE forced a season high 32 turnovers while holding Yeshiva to just 30% shooting in the second half. Kelly O’Dell continued her intimidating play down low, finishing the game with 15 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 steals. Cheyenne Grant added two 3 point buckets to finish the game with 16 points.
CSE never let Yeshiva find a rally, winning the game 82-77. The Eagles play their home opener on Tuesday vs. FDU at 7 P.M.
