CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Saint Elizabeth sophomore forward Valerie Lasko scored all three goals to power the Screaming Eagles to a 3-0 road victory in North Eastern Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The victory ended a three-game skid for CSE who improved to 5-10-1 overall and 4-7 in the NEAC.
On Saturday in central Pennsylvania, the Screaming Eagles were the aggressors early, out-shooting Wilson 10-2 in the first half.
Lasko, who missed the last five games with an injury, found pay dirt twice in the opening 45 minutes. The fleet sophomore found the back of the net in the 10th minute for her fourth goal of the season and just before halftime tallied her second score of the day to give CSE a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
Wilson (3-14, 1-10 NEAC) tried to turn up the pressure in the second half but the CSE counter again produced a distinct shot advantage (13-7). The Screaming Eagles senior goalkeeper De La Cruz kept the shutout in order with four second-half saves. She made five stops total on the afternoon for her first shutout of the season.
Lasko finished off her first collegiate hat trick in the 79th minute when she scored off a feed from Crane. The final score gave Lasko six goals for the season, good for second the team to O’Dell (12 goals).
It was the third hat trick by a Screaming Eagles soccer player this season – O’Dell turned the trick at SUNY Cobleskill on Sept. 9 and then did it again at home versus Gallaudet (she scored four times in that game).
CSE will play its regular season finale on Mon, Oct. 22 against NEAC foe Lancaster Bible in Somerset. The Screaming Eagles will honor its seven seniors with a pre-game ceremony. The honorees include Jasmine Bristol, Sheiny Bonilla, Cassidy Crane, Dina Toledo, Latasia Peace, Kelly O'Dell and Catherine De La Cruz.
