MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Saint Elizabeth freshman guard Ashley Pledger tallied a team-high 15 points and sophomore center Naquell Simmons added a double-double but home standing Penn State-Harrisburg came away with a 77-58 victory in the North Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both women's basketball teams on Tuesday night.
PSU Harrisburg (3-1, 1-0 NEAC) was the NEAC South Division champion last season and used a big first half on Tuesday to jump out to a 43-24 lead.
Pledger led CSE (1-4, 0-1 NEAC) with nine points in the first 20 minutes.
Simmons carried much of the offensive load for CSE in the second half with 11 points. For the night, she shot 6-of-9 from the free throw line for 14 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Freshman forward Chantele Clark added 11 rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Miranda Zeanchock led from PSU-Harrisburg led all scorers with 22 points.
The Screaming Eagles return home this weekend for a pair of games. On Saturday, they host Wilson at 1 p.m. and then welcome SUNY Old Westbury on Sunday, also at 1 p.m.
