The College of St Elizabeth softball team won their first 2 games of the season, beating York College 8-3 and 14-1 on Saturday.
In the first game, the Eagles rolled out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning. Kayla Gonzalez drove in Alesandria DeSapio to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. The next batter, Sharolin Saunders, smacked a single up the middle to score Jessica Scairpon and open up a 4 run lead. The Eagles would tack on one more run heading into the bottom of the 1st inning.
Danesha Triplett took the mound for the Eagles. She picked up where she left off from last game, quickly throwing 4 scoreless innings. Danesha helped herself out in the top of the 5th inning, lining a single up the middle and driving in DeSapio, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead. York College attempted a rally in the 5th inning, scoring 3 runs before Triplett would get out of the inning. The Eagles added 1 more run in the 6th inning and eventually defeated York 8-3 in game 1.
The Eagles started game 2 just like game 1, quickly getting on the board when Scairpon singled to left field, driving in 2 runs. 2 more runs would score on the next play thanks to a throwing error by York. The Eagles continued to pour it on in the second inning. Nicole Morera laced a triple in the gap, scoring 2 more runs and giving the Eagles an 8-0 lead.Danesha Triplett also added an RBI double in the inning, blowing the game wide open at 10-0.
Christina Scolaro was on the mound for the Eagles and quickly dominated from the get go. She pitched the best game of the early season, throwing a complete game 1 hit and 1 run, striking out 8. The Eagles tacked on 3 more runs in the 3rd inning, and 1 more in the 5th, to win by mercy rule, 14-1.
Nicole Morera finished the game 2-3 from the plate and drive in 4 runs. Alesandria DeSapio added 3 more hits as well as 3 RBI's. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Rosemont at 3 pm.
