Raymond Agnello

The "Heart" of What Matters

You know in your heart what's right. For Ray Agnello, that means furthering his education at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE) to better serve patients at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, Paterson, N.J., a member of St. Joseph's Healthcare System, sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from CSE in 2008 by taking classes taught at St. Joseph's by CSE professors. Now, he is enrolled in the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program, and taking classes at CSE's main campus in Morristown, N.J.

"St. Joseph's partnership with the College is very helpful," Agnello said. "The CSE education has been a wonderful experience for me. It has helped me grow tremendously on a professional level."

The relationship is very special, he added, because both institutions (CSE and St. Joseph's) are founded by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and share the same mission – serving and taking social responsibility for others. "The mission is something that is near and dear to my heart," he said. Agnello began his nursing career at St. Joseph's shortly after graduating from high school and is celebrating his 31st year of employment there. He first obtained his Associate Degree in Science and Nursing at Passaic County Community College, then transitioned to become a Registered Nurse and eventually earned his BSN through the CSE partnership program. Now, he is looking forward to finishing his master's degree, planning on a May 2013 graduation.

This education path has helped him advance professionally – moving from being a nurse to nurse educator and now, quality management specialist for the medical center. "It has opened doors for me ... helped me advance professionally and given me a sense of personal satisfaction," Agnello concluded.
