Borrowing
Privileges
To borrow materials, all students, faculty and staff need to show a current CSE photo identification card at the Circulation Desk. The library will affix a barcode sticker to the back of your ID card.
to request books from FDU or borrow from other libraries.
If you don't have one, contact the Security Office to schedule an appointment.
Confidentiality
Under NJ State Law, library patron circulation and registration records are confidential.
Loans
You may borrow as many books or other library materials as you need. There is no longer any borrowing limit.
Borrowing may be restricted, however, if library materials are not returned in a timely manner. All items circulate except microfilm, microfiche, periodicals and reference books.
Borrowing Periods
Books - 28 days
Videos - 1 week
Reserves - specified by instructor
Interlibrary Loan - specified by lending library
Library items are to be returned at the Circulation desk or to the drop box in front of the library on or before the specified due date.
Renewals
Items may be renewed once, either in person or online through CoolCAT. To renew online, login to your CoolCat account here. You may use either your student/staff ID number (on the back of your CSE ID card) or your library barcode number (on sticker affixed to back of CSE ID card).
Fines
Books-20 cents per day
Videos and DVDs-$ 1.00 per day
Reserves-$ 1.00 per day
Interlibrary Loans-$1.00 per day (applies to students, staff, and faculty)
A replacement and processing fee is charged to replace all lost or misplaced items.
Other Services
Reserves
Faculty may designate library-owned materials (except for Reference materials and periodicals) or personal copies to be placed on reserve at the library's Circulation Desk. Such items are intended for specific classes and may be checked out for a period of time determined by the faculty member. Reserve requests should be submitted prior to the start of each semester. Stop by the Circulation Desk to fill out a form or contact Gloria Papciak, Circulation Supervisor, at (973)290-4237 with any questions.Borrowing from Other Libraries
Items not available at Mahoney Library can be obtained from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Allow 1-2 weeks for journal articles and 2-4 weeks for books. Items needed from either Fairleigh-Dickinson campus may be requested online. Delivery time is usually 3-4 days. ILL items picked up from Mahoney Library must be returned to Mahoney Library.
