    The New Jersey Career Assistance Navigator (NJCAN) is an online career resource with job descriptions and projections, self evaluation tools to help determine your best career path, further educational and training opportunities, and current, New Jersey labor market data and projections. It also provides strategies for job searching, resume and cover letter creation and job interview preparation.

Exploring Careers

  • Ferguson's Career Guidance Center
    Search job profiles and learn about job hunting and workplace skills. Includes resources for women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Occupational Outlook Handbook
    Information resource for hundreds of different professions describing the training and education needed, average earnings, working conditions and what workers do on the job, as well as job search tips and links to information about the job market in each state.

Working in New Jersey

  • State of NJ Department of Labor & Workforce Development
    Search the job bank for an overview of occupations and wages, as well as additional resources by category and county in the Occupation Explorer database.
  • New Jersey Labor Exchange
    Career searching tool allowing the user to search for job postings by keyword, industry group or occupation, and by location through four different sources, Job Central, Simply hired, Indeed and Google. Indeed also provides additional salary information, comparing the salary currently posted to regional and national trends for the industry.

Test Preparation

  • Learning Express Library
    Practice tests for graduate school entrance exams like GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT. Practice tests for professional exams like PRAXIS for teaching, and preparation for law enforcement, military, nursing and real estate exams. Learning Express also includes communication and skills improvement modules, and a job search and career success area. Registration is required.

  • Reference USA Directories
    Search US businesses within a specific geographic location for corporate and contact information. Search U.S. Businesses/Employers USA for business descriptions within a specific industry, competitor reports and financial expenditures.

    Includes industry reports, profiles of companies and SWOT Analyses of companies (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats).
  • Lexis Nexis Academic
    Get company profiles or compare companies across specified criteria.
  • Hoover's Company Records
    Profiles of more than 40,000 companies, 600 industries, and 225,000 key executives.
  • ABI/Inform Complete
    Keep up to date with what's happening in your industry or get recent news on companies relevant to your field.
  • Business & Human Rights Resource Centre
    View the positive and negative impacts of over 4,000 companies worldwide.
