In order to participate in a College of Saint Elizabeth Study Abroad program, all program participants are required to adhere to College of Saint Elizabeth policies and to read, complete and submit several documents. Please see below for further details.
All CSE Students as well as Non-CSE students must complete an application when participating in any sort of Study Abroad Trip sponsored by the College of Saint Elizabeth. This form may be completed and submitted to the CSE trip organizer or to the Director of Community and Leadership Development.
All participants traveling on a CSE-sponsored Study Abroad program must complete and submit the Travel Liability Waiver. This form may be completed and submitted to the CSE trip organizer or to the Director of Community and Leadership Development.
All participants traveling on a CSE-sponsored Study Abroad program must complete and submit the the Emergency Contact Form and the Medical Information Form. These forms may be completed and submitted to the CSE trip organizer or to the Director of Community and Leadership Development.
All participants in CSE Study Abroad programs must carry insurance that includes the following: Emergency Medical, Major Medical, Evacuation, Repatriation and Liability.
Travelers must present verification to the Director of Community and Leadership Development four weeks in advance of the trip's departure date. Travelers must provide the Director with a copy of the insurance policy and a copy of the insurance card. The Director can provide the names of insurance agencies that can assist travelers with the necessary insurance.
A copy of a participant's passport and, if necessary, Visa must be submitted to the Director of Community and Leadership Development 4 weeks in advance of the trips departure date.
When a person accepts a place on one of the trips sponsored by the College of Saint Elizabeth they agree to adhere to the policies and procedures developed to help ensure the success of the program. Travelers have a responsibility to make the program the best possible personal and academic experience by supporting the College policies and procedures.
Travelers are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible and mature manner at all times. This includes being sensitive to cultural dress, norms and behaviors of the sites being visited. The staff member directing the trip will inform students of the appropriate dress, norms and behaviors for each site and it is the responsibility of each traveler to adhere to these requirements.
Should it be decided that a traveler must be separated from the program because of violation of rules, disruptive behavior or conduct that is deemed inappropriate, this decision is made by the staff member directing the trip and it is final. Separation from the program will result in loss of the full amount paid for the trip and the loss of academic credits. The traveler will be responsible for any additional costs (such as additional airfare or other transportation costs) incurred by sending the traveler home before the trip ends.
Traveling requires organization and coordination. Tour schedules, movement at airports and other activities often necessitate certain regimentation that must be adhered to. Travelers are expected to pay attention and follow directions. It is expected that all travelers will attend all scheduled activities that are a part of the travel itinerary. Travelers need to be on time for scheduled events. If for some reason a traveler is unable to attend an activity they must discuss this with the staff director prior to the experience.
There are certain behaviors which are considered unacceptable and could lead to possible disruption of the travel program. All travelers must therefore agree to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner which does not infringe on the laws, customs and mores of the country in which the program is being conducted.
If involved in alleged civil or criminal misconduct a program participant will be responsible for all costs, expenses, fees and fines associated with an actions or penalties and for retaining counsel, as well as for any additional living or transportation cost resulting form alleged unlawful conduct.
Although alcohol abuse may not carry the same legal penalties in some countries as the use of illegal drugs, it can create a dire circumstance for a traveler in a CSE Study Abroad program. Although there may be no minimum drinking age in the country program participants are visiting, the customs regarding alcohol use may be very different from the USA.
Alcohol abuse is not tolerated anywhere in the world and is not tolerated on CSE Study Abroad program. Violation of local laws or CSE regulations or policies may result in immediate dismissal from the program including required immediate return home at the participant's own cost, withdrawal from the semester in progress and disciplinary action upon return to campus.
All United States legal restrictions on the use of drugs apply to all trips sponsored by the College of Saint Elizabeth. The use, purchase or sale of illegal drugs is a critical issue.
One violation involving illegal drug use will result in separation from the program and the loss of the full cost of the program and academic credit.
Foreign visitors in countries abroad are particularly vulnerable when it concerns violations of local rules and regulations concerning alcohol and in particular drugs, whether intentional or unintentional, so be aware of local rules and regulations in particular as they relate to drugs.
It is recommended that participants do not operate a motor vehicle while participating in the travel program. If a participant drives and an accident occurs, they will be responsible for all damages and costs.
**Travelers whose behavior is deemed inappropriate will be required to leave the tour and return home at their own expense. If the traveler is a CSE student, he/she will face judicial proceedings on campus.
For each Study Abroad Experience, the College will organize a pre-departure meeting with all program participants. The pre-departure training will include information about the learning outcomes of the trip and also about the specific details related to traveling.
