Foundations in Faith Community Nursing

A Faith Community Nurse focuses on the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of a faith community and congregation.

Purpose of Course

This course teaches registered nurses with an active license the basic priniciples and skills to provide health education, guidance and other services to a faith community in the context of their spiritual beliefs and practices. This 36 hour course is based on the standardized core curriculum developed through the International Parish Nurse Resource Center and facilitated through the Diocese of Camden NJ, Parish Nurse Council.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to:

  • Establish a plan to start a Faith Community Nurse Program.
  • Integrate basic concepts of faith and health in relation to building an effective faith-based health program.
  • Apply knowledge of spirituality and scripture to the practice of Faith Community Nursing and develop counseling, visitation, advocacy and referral services.
  • Identify sources of continuing education and Faith Community Nursing support and networking in the New Jersey area and nationally.

A Faith Community Nurse at Christ the Redeemer Parish in Atco, NJ for 15 years, Ms. Valerio holds a certificate in Faith Community Nursing and is certified by the International Parish Nurse Resource Center. She earned a masters of nursing in community administration from Jefferson University, College of Graduate Studies in Philadelphia, Pa and is also a certified case manager.

Registration fee: $100 per student
Payment by credit card is required at time ofregistration.

Atlantic Health System is subsidizing this program in order to make the program fee more affordable to faith communities and nurses. A continental breakfast & lunch will be provided.
